As forecasted yesterday, competitors had to face tough conditions during Day 3 at 2016 Worlds, where two races have been sailed by a 20-25 knots “Pampero” gusty wind, and where many teams did suffered from equipment breakage.
Whatever the case, a tense fight keeps on going at the top of the fleet, where Pablo Völker – Juan Martin Benitez (14.0 pts) and Cruz Gonzalez Smith – Mariano Heuser (30.0 pts) respectively gained one more bullet each, leaving a group of four boats slightly behind, scoring 40.0 to 45.0 pts, and contending for the third place on the podium.
Esteban Blando – Nicolas Quagliotti, previously ranked 2nd, unfortunately broke their mast when reaching the race area and, being unable to find any spare, decided to retire from the event, abandoning their podium dreams.
Young team from Uruguay Alexander Schewe – Enrique Schickendantz were misfortuned as well, by breaking their mainsail window, missing then the two races sailed today but, luckily enough, should be able to get it repaired by tomorrow morning.
Considering weather and sea conditions, it is to stress the performance of the first mixed crew, compromised of Ian Rodger and Eugenia Bosco, scoring 3rd and 5th today, as well it is good to note URU 355 Pablo de Fazio – Alberto Viera to gain the revert posistions, and succeeding in joining the leaders group with 45.0 pts.
