Round Texel has started with the Texel Dutch Open (TDO). After the first day 3 races were sailed with some nice battles in the Top 3. All 3 teams are very close within one point of each other.
Grant and Adam Piggot (GBR) are leading with 7 points after 3 races. Jolbert van Dijk & Frank de Waard are in 2nd position with only 1 point behind. Wik & Rob Becker are third with only nine points. Grant Piggot tells after his first day on the water: “We had quite a big day on the water! Biggest challenge was launching without damage and surviving huge waves. We had close racing with Jobert and Frank changing positions with them a couple of times. The tide was running strong, so picking layline out to the windward mark was pretty hard. Big highlight of the day for me was sailing with my son Adam as we haven’t sailed together for a long time.” Grant Piggot is very fast on the F18 all year. Grant, who makes my own sails, proves to be pretty fast so far this year by winning all UK events in 2018.
It was not easy for the teams to get out on the water based on the photos the Round Texel organization put on their Facebook page and Instagram! The Round Texel race committee has scheduled 5 races on Thursday. Conditions seem to be tough with winds between 18-25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots. Full results of the Texel Dutch Open can be found here.
