Our Class just held pretty successful World Championships in Club Vela La Ballena Alegre, Costa Brava, Spain.
First point to notice is participation numbers, the best ones since Covid pandemic, 131 teams from 22 nations and 5 continents competing to get World Title, including strong delegations from Argentina (7 teams) and Australia (13 teams).
Second point to stress is that competition has been tense at the front of the fleet, although ARG/ESP pair rapidly killed any suspense, by scoring (10), 7, 1, 1, 3, 2 in the qualification round, then being even more impressive in the finals, signing 3 new bullets and a 3rd as worst score on 7 sailed Gold Group races…
Brett Burvill & Max Puttman, recent winners of the Worrel 1000 Long Distance Race, finish clear second, being not really threatened by their followers, tightest fight being actually among Bronze contenders, Toni Rivas Mas-Jordi Sanchez (ESP), Cedric Bader-Yves Peters (FRA), and Cruz Gonzalez Smith–Mariano Heuser (ARG) ending up in a pocket square, being ranked within 5 points on a total of 13 completed races.
Great organization provided by Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre, in a perfect mix of fair racing on the water and friendly welcome ashore.
2024 edition clearly marked a new boost for the Class, and all competitors are now eager to join Noordwijk (NED) in 2025, and Jervoise Bay, Western Australia, early 2026.
We do hope to see you numerous at both events. Have a nice summer season meanwhile.
