2017 Martinique Cata Raid just started today from Le Robert to Anses d’Arlet, Benjamin Dutreux and Joris Cocaud being the winners of the first leg, in 4 hours and 44 minutes, 7 minutes ahead of Emmanuel and Jean Boulogne, and 16 minutes ahead Benoît Champanhac and Bruno Dhallenne.
Winners comment : ” We sailed out Robert Bay in the leading group, together with the two British teams and the Boulogne. In front of Vauclin, we rounded off the coast to benefit more pressure, getting a slight advantage, but then the other teams gained on us from the South, sailing close to the shore. We progressively reached up to the Diamant, and, when close to the rock, we had to play tactics as the wind was getting down. The Boulogne and the Brits went off the coast, when we preferred to stay close to the shore…and this option paid back, giving us the win.”
