In 2014 Glenn Ashby was the big surprise to attend at the Formula 18 Worlds in Ireland together with Brett Goodall. Because of hull damage it cost the team 4 races and any chance of winning the event. This year they are back and focused to take the trophy to Australia.
The team needs no introduction, Glenn Ashby is one of the most well-known names in multihull sailing with world titles, Olympic medals and Americas cup wins. “Last year we were a little unlucky, but I’m really happy to get back on the boat with Glenn, he’s an incredible talent and we really just have fun on the water” says Brett Goodall. Besides the hull damage, this team won 4 of the last 5 races last year at the Worlds in Ireland. This shows the team as one to watch this year.
Youngsters defending their title
Taylor Reisse and Matt Whitehead, the 3 time Formula 18 Youth World Champions, will defend their Championship. Last year the boys from Florida (USA) almost won the open division and this year they are focusing on having fun. “I have been focusing on school” says Reisse, the college freshman “and Matt has been on the Olympic sailing program, so we don’t get to sail much together anymore, and when we do it’s important that we enjoy the time.”
The Formula 18 Worlds 2015 will start on July 11th in Kiel (Germany).
