Club Vela Ballena Alegre ready to welcome 2024 Worlds

A preparation meeting has been held on 25th May in La Ballena Alegre to fix last organization points, in order to provide competitors with the best possible welcome in Costa Brava for the 2024 Class pinnacle event.

First point was to stress the excellent level of the participation, in both terms of numbers and quality. No less than 126 teams from 21 nations and 5 continents are registered so far, including numerous past World or Continental Champions or Vice Champions. It is to notice these are the highest numbers since Covid pandemic.

Following, it has been agreed to implement two separate race courses, and two equipment inspection lines as well, to guarantee fair racing and smooth registration process. As usual, a minimum of 6 qualification races will be sailed before the fleet to be split into two Gold and Silver groups for the finals.

A weather forecast information will be given live on 30th June, and on the regatta web page and social media during the rest of the event.

Competitors will receive “What to do on your arrival instructions” mid June, as we did in 2019, to help them preparing their stay.

Prize giving ceremony connected to History

Club Vela Ballena Alegre is located pretty close from former Greek City of Empúries, who was the first city in the Iberian Peninsula to mint its own currency from the 5th century BC.

As a legacy, medals to be distributed at prize giving ceremony will be reproductions of Emporitan Drachmas, depicting Pegasus, the mythological winged horse. See further info here.
